Tribute

Carl Markusic, age 84, of Sterling Heights, passed away on June 01 2021. Beloved husband of Carole for 61 years. Loving father of Leslie Mckenzie, Todd (Chris) Markusic and Jennifer (Joseph) Ermiger. Dear son of the late Ferdinand and Anna Markusic. Loving brother of Catherine Strizich (Adam), Fred Markus, Rosemary (Carmen) Alampi, Janet (Richard) Learmont. Proud Papa of Melissa (Jon) Brennan, Robert (Brooke) McKenzie, Olivia, Grace and Noelle Ermiger, Jacob and Logan Markusic. Grandpops to Abigail and Vivian Brennan and Amelia McKenzie. Carl was deeply loved by his extended family and shared a closeness with his nephews and nieces, his loss is immeasurable.

Carl was born in Uniontown Pennsylvania, where his father was a coal miner. He moved to Detroit in 1942. He graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, he always had an underpinning for social justice and was determined to be more impactful in the world. Early in his career as he was ascending in sales in the medical industry, Carl held many interesting side jobs. He was a singer in a band called “The Sounds of Orpheus.” He was on morning radio most known for impersonating the announcer from the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. Later in life he created a cartoon book and recorded his own CD of Frank Sinatra hits.

In the late 70’s he helped launch a medical laboratory called Metric Medical Lab. One of his proudest professional accomplishments was taking Leeco Diagnostics public and being named Chairman of the Board. Carl made an impact on many people’s lives with his ability to make people feel special and valued. His sense of humor and funny lines could always brighten your mood. He had a generous heart and was the go to for support, guidance, advice or innovative ideas. He was a great father, Papa, dear friend, and mentor to many. He was truly one of a kind.

Visitation at the Sterling Heights Chapel of the Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 13650 East 15 Mile Road, Friday, June 11, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM with Service at 5:00 PM.
