Gerardo Capoccia

Capoccia, Gerardo, age 84, passed away February 19, 2021. Beloved husband of Victoria (nee Mancini) for 58 years. Dear father of Claudio (Kim) and the late Mario. Proud grandfather of Sara and Sofia. Dear brother of the late Marianna (Carmine) Iacobone (in Italy) and Giovanna (Anastasio) Capoccia. Preceded in death by his parents Mario and Filomena and Victoria’s parents Antonio and Secondina Mancini. He is loved and missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Gerardo emigrated from Alvito, Frosinone Italy in 1962 where he met and married Vittoria Mancini.  They were happily married for 58 years.  He had two sons Mario (deceased since 1991) and Claudio who is married to Kim and has two daughters Sara and Sofia.  He loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren.  Gerardo had a fascination and a passion for wood working.  He acquired his skills at a trade school in Italy.  An ‘ebanista’, woodworker in cabinetry and furniture.  While working at cabinet making, the creative side of his profession expressed itself in woodcarving as an avocation.  His collection was an array of exquisite workmanship; from wholly carved objects to laminated pieces in perfect geometric symmetry.  Woods of different hues were used with finishes beautiful to behold.  Objects large and small; a child’s stylized hobbyhorse, farm implements, covered kitchen bowls (no two alike), vases with Christmas themes, etc.  Especially fine, a pair of ‘Deer in the Woods’, elegant, sleek and poised.  His work, and his impeccable honesty contributes to his legacy.  His biggest legacy in life was the love he had for his family; a love that will continue on forever.

Instate Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 8:30am until the time of Mass 9:30am at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Road in Sterling Heights. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
