Giuseppe "Pino" Lico

February 13, 1930 ~ October 19, 2020 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

Giuseppe “Pino” Lico, 90, beloved husband of Judy Lico for 65 Years, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2020 with his family by his side.  He was the loving father of 4 children and grandfather of 10.

Pino was born in Pizzo, Calabria, February 13, 1930, the youngest of five children.  He was always a scholar and graduated from The University of Messina in 1954 and followed his future wife to America.  He attended The University of Michigan and married his wife, Judy, in 1955.  As an immigrant, with nothing but determination and an education, he worked hard and eventually started Pino Lico Travel in 1961.  But he was more than a travel agent to Italians in the Metro Detroit area at that time. He was the Italian Go-To person including helping many Italians migrate and obtain their citizenship, preparing legal documentation for businesses, marriages, and deaths, provided accounting services and prepared tax returns, translated documents and served as the local advocate for migrating Italians in this area.  Pino Lico was a household name and reference for all Italians in Metro Detroit. He founded the Calabria Club in 1990 and served as an officer until his passing.

Pino’s true claim to fame was his strong and rooted faith and his love and dedication to his wife and family.  He lived a selfless life and worked tirelessly to provide a life for his family that he could not have himself growing up.  He followed the Lord’s footsteps and provided the foundation for his family.  He devoted his life to caring for his family and was a role model to his children and grandchildren.  He exemplified the endless possibilities of having faith, family unity and education in one’s life. He loved to travel with his wife and family and looked forward to Sunday family dinners.

Pino is survived by his wife Judy, daughters Isabella (Tony) Haight, Jeanne (Joe) LoGrasso, Sandra (Anthony) Montalbano and son Nick (Claudia) Lico and grandchildren Joe, Becky, and Matthew Haight, Alyssa (Ryan) Knaack, Joe LoGrasso, Joe and Alessandra Lico, Nicole, Christine, and Lauren Montalbano.  He was the last surviving sibling in his own family.

Pino was a legend in his own right.  He will always  be remembered for helping others in this community at a time where immigration and Italians were suppressed but his love of God and devotion to his  family is what makes this man legendary.
