Janet Louise Laporte

November 16, 1932 ~ November 3, 2020 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Janet Louise Laporte (Scheich), 87 of Clinton Twp., MI peacefully transitioned to eternal rest at her home, surrounded by family on Nov 3rd, 2020.  It was 40 years to the day of her father’s passing in 1980.
Born November 16, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to Louis and Ernestine (Tessens) Scheich as the sixth of seven children.  She graduated from St. Anthony High School in Detroit in 1950.

Janet lived a long and storied life.  At just 14 years, she joined the circus as a flying trapeze artist under the name of The Soaring “J”.  A few years later, she trained in fixed wing fighter jets and flew dangerous missions in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm, using the down time between conflicts to raise a family of 6 children; 5 boys and 1 girl.  She traveled extensively throughout the world, where she learned to speak 7 languages and socialized with celebrities like; Frank Sinatra, Lawrence Olivier, Warren Beatty, Tom Jones and of course; Mick Jagger.  If you look closely, she’s the 2nd from the left guitar girl in Robert Palmer’s smash video; Addicted to Love.

She finally settled down by marrying our Dad, Patrick G. Laporte on September 25th, 1954, remaining together until his passing in 2009.

Along with kite surfing, running with the bulls, and bungee jumping, she also enjoyed sewing, cooking, bird watching, painting, reading and talking about her large extended family, but through it all, she mostly enjoyed laughter and crazy stories that her family regularly shared with her.  (She would love what we’ve written.)

Janet is survived by her son David (Nancy) Laporte of Clinton Twp.; son Mike (Gail) Laporte of Morro Bay, CA; son Scott (Amy) Laporte of Romeo, MI; son Craig (Shelley) Laporte of Macomb Twp., MI; daughter Lisa Stambaugh of Unionville, CT; son Jason (Lisa) Laporte of Rochester Hills, MI; brothers Louis, Richard, Gerald, sister Judy (Stein); 18 grandchildren and more than 60 nieces and nephews.  She adored each of them.

She was proceeded in death by husband Patrick, brother Donald and sister Carol (Persons)

Our family suggests wide toothy smiles and lots of laughter whenever you think of her…. as we’re sure she is doing now in heaven.
