Tribute

Leininger, Lowell, passed away May 24, 2021, age 91. Beloved husband of the late Caroline (nee Calcaterra). Dear father of Denise (Patrick) Flinn and Mark (Christopher Mangiapane) Leininger. Proud grandfather of Sarah (Rodney) Craig. Step-grandfather of Ashley (Scott) Forest, Caitlin (Ryan) Berry, Bradley (Erin) Flinn and Margaret Flinn. Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Fannie Leininger, his sister Ruth (Earl) Roe and his niece Diane Roe.

Lowell was born on March 21, 1930. Son of Samuel and Fanny Leininger, and younger brother of Ruth.
He grew up on Delaware Street on the west side of Detroit. Lowell graduated from Northern high school.
He met his future wife, Caroline Calcaterra, on a street car on his way home from the Jefferson Beach Amusement Park.
Shortly afterward, Lowell was drafted into the US Army where he served a tour of duty in Korea during the conflict. On His return home he became engaged to his sweetheart Caroline. They were married and had two children, Denise and Mark. They settled in St. Clair Shores.

Lowell began his career at the National Bank of Detroit. Several years later he began a new career as a US postal carrier at the St. Clair Shores branch.
Lowell was an excellent saxophone player and an avid jazz fan. He had the opportunity to play with jazz greats Stan Kenton and Woody Herman. He was a collector of antiques, enjoyed genealogy, gardening , TV repair, and was the Detroit tiger fan.

Lowell was a member and volunteer usher at San Francesco Church. Lowell also volunteered for many church events, especially his favorite, the annual spaghetti dinner.
Lowell went on to enjoy a long happy retirement with the love of his life for 68 years. Lowell was predeceased by his beautiful Caroline by just 18 short days.

A Memorial Gathering will take place at the Sterling Heights Chapel of the Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 13650 East 15 Mile Road, Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Funeral Mass, Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 1:00 PM at San Francesco Catholic Church, 22870 South Nunneley Road, Clinton Township, MI 48035.
