Luigi LaMarra, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 28, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Angela, who left us in November 27, 2022, and son Benedetto who passed away in 2009. Survivors include sons Franco (Sherrie Weitzman), Dominic and Michael (Michele), grandchildren Michael ( Sarah) LaMarra, Nicholas (Nick) LaMarra, Ashleigh (Dennis) Perry, Summer LaMarra, Jessica LaMarra and great grandson Jameson Perry. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Italy.
Luigi was born on April 26, 1927 in Portella, Italy to Domenico and Gaetana LaMarra. He was one of 5 children—brothers Pierino, Ludovico, Antonio and sister Italia. In 1955, Luigi and Angela joined two of his brothers in Detroit, along with their young sons, Benny and Frank. Dominic and Michael were born in Detroit.
An avid musician and clarinet player, Luigi and Angela founded Il Coro Italiano in 1980. They performed statewide and in Canada for many local, national and international dignitaries. Just before new years 2022 Luigi could be heard playing his clarinet at Villa Bella, his residence in Clinton Township.
Visitation will take place on Sunday February 5, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 13650 East Fifteen Mile Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48312.
Funeral Mass is Monday, February 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM with in state at 9:30 AM at San Francesco Catholic Church, 22870 South Nunneley, Clinton Township, MI 48035. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
